Spring Lacrosse

SPRING 2024
LOUYAA Lacrosse is the rec program offered for those in Linganore, Oakdale and Urbana communities. We offer instructional, recreational programs for girls and boys ages 5 to 14 and more competitive team play for ages 9 to 14.  Head coaches have been trained in the Positive Coaching Alliance and are US Lacrosse Level 1 certified.  All coaches are also concussion certified.

Boys and girls will play separately in the Western Maryland Youth Lacrosse Conference (WMYLC) during the spring season.  See the WMYLC website for full league details, rules, etc.

League Play
WMYLC offers both Boys and Girls lacrosse based on grade groupings:
-K-1 Scoopers, no prior experience
-1st and 2nd
-3rd and 4th
-5th and 6th
-7th and 8th
*Instructional games are played at the Scoopers and 1st & 2nd grade divisions.

For boys and girls 3rd through 8th grade, WMYLC will have Competitive and Developmental divisions based on number of teams registering. Competitive teams will play for standings to determine division champion and for the end of season tournament seedings. Developmental teams will also play for standings to determine division champions but will instead play in a play day style format (2 or more games) matched against like opponents on the weekend of the end of season tournaments.

The season consists of 8 conference games scheduled primarily on Saturdays for Boys and Sundays for Girls (make-up games scheduled as calendar permits). The season will start in late March or early April based on weather and field availability.  Do not expect the season schedule any sooner than the week leading up to the opening weekend.

Tryouts / Evaluations
LOUYAA Lacrosse will hold try-outs / evaluations for 3rd thru 8th grade boys and girls to form competitive and developmental teams. These will be held in late February to early March.  Please be aware that LOUYYAA cannot control how WMYLC sets up their divisions from year to year.   It is a very large conference (16 organizations) and we only hold 1 vote for any changes to the league.  If WMYLC does not do A and B divisions at a specific level, it will be due to the number of teams at that division.  Regardless of what WMYLC does, LOUYAA lacrosse will still group the same as it is easier for the volunteer coaches to form practice plans if the majority of the players are on similar levels of play.

Practice
Boys and Girls teams 3rd through 8th grade will practice a minimum of 2 evenings a week. Practices will likely begin the second week in March, weather permitting. Scoopers and 1st/2nd Grade teams will practice 1 or 2 nights a week, based on the coach's discretion.

Practice nights, locations and times are at the head coach’s discretion, but usually last 2 hours, and are held between the hours of 5pm and 8pm.  The amount of daylight in the beginning of the season will play a part.

End-of-season WMYLC Tournament and Play Days
WMYLC will hold its end-of-season Girls tournament in late May and Boys tournament the first weekend of June. Developmental level play day games will be held the same weekend of the respective boys and girls divisions.

All LOUYAA lacrosse teams will have the chance to participate in an optional post-season tournament (not included in registration fee) such as Lax Max outside of WMYLC, based solely on coach and player availability.
