WINTER 2025
Hello LOUYAA basketball families!
I hope you are all as excited as I am to get the 2025-2026 basketball season underway!
Click on the league info your child will participate in for specific details below.
General Information:
Coaching
When registering your child, register as volunteer within the registration form.
There will be a MANDATORY coaches meeting tentatively on Sunday October 19th from 10-12, I am still waiting for gym confirmation. If you cannot make this meeting, you cannot coach. This means we have very few days to recruit coaches if we do not have enough, so if your league coordinator reaches out, please quickly let them know if you are willing to coach. If we do not get enough coaches by the time of this meeting, we will not be able to allocate players.
We will also need a volunteer from each team to be a "Game Manager". These duties include:
- Monitoring playing time for both teams, a chart can be provided to help
- Monitor crowd behavior and reporting to the league coordinator or myself inappropriate behaviors. My plan is to have a shirt for everyone in this role to wear to games
- You will have the ability to ask spectators to leave games if you feel comfortable doing so and reporting to me if there is no compliance or other issues
Anyone interested in being a Game Referee can email Melissa Singh at [email protected]. Our refs are always our biggest complaint, so please feel free to email Melissa if you think you can add value to our referee program. IT IS A PAID POSITION! We will have an experienced ref hold a training session for our refs as we near the start of games. Date is still TBD, but most likely a Sunday morning in November.
There is a 'Special Request' line on registration form if you need to note things such as specific days that you cannot practice, or if there is a specific coach or teammate you want to be placed with. With 900 players in our program, requests are noted, but cannot be guaranteed. Please do not email or text these requests as your registration form is what will be looked at.
Registration will close on October 10th. Leagues max out at 160 kids, that means that if we hit that number before Oct. 10th, then registration for that league will be closed.

MID-MARYLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL TRAVEL
Must be enrolled in school that you're trying out for, (i.e. Oakdale Students cannot tryout for New Market or Windsor Knolls); If Home-Schooled, you would register for school district you live in.
Please note, your child must try out for their grade level team unless otherwise invited by the coach. Because the boys middle school rec leagues fill up quickly, it would be prudent to register for both rec and Mid-MD. our rec fee can be applied to Mid-MD if your child makes the Mid-MD team and you registered for both.
There is no minimum play rule
Practices will be 2-3 times per week. Practices start in October
Games are on Saturdays and Sundays- don’t have the game schedule
Playoffs are in March
There are try-outs for these teams. If your son/daughter does not make the team, they will need to re-register for the rec league
Players MUST be registered at www.louyaasports.org in order to attend try-outs. There is no fee charged to try out. Those who do not make the teams will have opportunity to register for our rec program by October 10th.
Parents are asked to drop off, as there will be no space to stay inside.
Dates and times are subject to change and updates will be provided over the next couple of weeks. Please check your emails and/or this page.
