WINTER 2021/2022

Please read FCPS COVID Guidelines to use schools indoors.

Kindergarten- This will be an 8 week clinic run by John Alexander of Alexander Basketball Academy on Saturdays. The first 4 weeks will be skill development and teaching the basics of how to play. The second 4 weeks will be centered around playing actual games. The clinic will be run at Alexander Basketball Academy in Mt. Airy behind Health Unlimited- Session to start in December.

1st /2nd Grade Co-ed- These kids will have a 3 on 3 half court league. The idea behind it being 3 on 3 is that teams will be smaller so kids can get more attention from their coaches during practice/games. Kids have more room to move around and learn the importance of moving to open space. The extra space will also help kids learn, practice and develop skills in live game situations (more open shots, more room to dribble with less pressure, easier to see passing lanes). This league will start in December.

3rd/4th boys and 3rd/4th girls, 5th/6th boys and 5th/6th girls, 7th/8th boys and 7th/8th girls- These age groups will play in MYBA league. If there will be more than 6 teams in age division, we will take the top third, in ability, and enter them into MYBA. The other 2/3 will be put in an in-house LOUYAA rec league.

For those of you unfamiliar with MYBA (Monocacy Youth Basketball), to put it simply, it is a rec league where kids will play against other rec teams around the county. In the past we have had a try-out for these teams and made it more of a select team, however we are making the change this year and putting in as many teams as they will let us.

The MYBA league won't have their first game until January. For 3rd-8th graders we will have an evaluation session. All coaches will help to place kids on teams and maintain parity in each league. This will likely take place in early-mid November. Sometime in December we will start up with practices to prepare kids for their first game in January.

We will need volunteer coaches so if you are interested in helping coach for 1st-8th grade groups, let me know, and register as a Volunteer when you register your child.
